Kidney stones are small, hard deposits of mineral and acid salts on the inner surface of the kidney. The problem is also known by alternative names viz., Renal Lithiasis, Renal Calculi, Nephrolithiasis. Stones are classified by their location in the urinary system and their composition of crystals. More than 1 million cases annually in US are of kidney stones. 90% of the stones are small (<6mm) and passes through the urinary system spontaneously.
